This week we featured in The Harrogate Advertiser’s feature ‘In the company of’. Our director and osteopath Seb Contreras was quizzed about a range of things from what we do at the clinic, what motivates him and who inspires him. You can read the…
Seb is my go to therapist; he has helped me in the past twenty years through back problems and in recuperation after a broken arm. Recently I went to Seb with a shoulder injury which resulted in me having very little mobility in my arm and substantial pain. Seb expertly diagnosed the problem and the treatment, which has included Shockwave therapy, has helped restore normal movement. I can’t recommend him highly enough!
Regular visits here for chiropody.
Excellent service from Nice people.
I went to see Jonathan due to a lower back injury sustained in the gym.
The initial screening was very informative and reassuring that the injury was of a muscular nature. Over a series of sessions Jonathan managed to improve the movement in my lower back as well as give me exercises to help prevent the same thing occurring again.
Being a Professional Golfer it has been a massive help in terms of me playing and being able to demonstrate golf shots during my lessons.
I continue to see Jonathan to not only maintain and prevent further injury but also to improve my movement and muscle function.
I can’t thank him enough.
Attended Bee Holistic at Castle Clinic for the first time after seeing a post offering Indian Head Massage with facial reflexology, including sinus relief. The treatment was tailored to my preferences and was extremely relaxing and energising. Will be going back!
Having been well helped for a knee problem 18 months ago when I developed shoulder pain I returned to the castle clinic physiotherapist. I was seen quickly and after a comprehensive assessment and diagnosis had a short series of physio which improved the problem and have carried on to trial the golf swing with physio sessions which are based on a sound knowledge of the mechanics of the swing, are not too onerous and delivered in a fun way.
Jon is a knowledgeable physiotherapist and I have no hesitation in recommending him
Wonderful experience, made me relax, so looking forward to having regular sessions
On 7 February 2020, driving home from my office in Skipton, I felt a “wooshing” feeling in my lower back and so stopped the car and got out. Standing between the car body and the open driver’s door, with the engine running, I fell to the ground.
I knew only one thing lying on the cold tarmac, I could not move my lower body and it dawned on me, that I was paralysed below my waist – I could not move my legs.
Luckily, I had my phone in my pocket and called for an ambulance. I was taken firstly to Harrogate A&E and then later that evening, transferred to the Specialist Neuro ward at LGI. One of the best in the country!
There was no instant diagnosis and still isn’t despite many many tests, but it’s believed that I had either a Spinal - Stroke, Infarction or Stenosis.
Very slowly, feeling came back into my legs and I learnt to stand in hospital. No gain with out pain and there was plenty of both.
Then Covid lockdown in March. I had to leave LGI in a wheelchair and returned home and was asked to do my own physio as the local rehab unit was closed– which was difficult – YouTube plus some remote communication with a local physio was my source of knowledge.
During this time, I learnt to stand and walk with a frame – each day aiming to walk further and further. By end April I was also able walk a few thousand steps and able to drive.
After the relaxing of lock down rules in May, I wanted to return to work which involved exporting and therefore travel around the world – but I was not fit enough.
I researched, as recommended, for a specialist neuro physiotherapist and found Jonathan Rebanks of the Castle Clinic
I have been with Jonathan ever since then – starting off once every week for an hour.
Jonathan asked for my goals:
1. I wanted to “walk normally” rather than the with the very odd gait I had acquired
2. I wanted to be stronger, so I could walk 10,000 steps.
3. I wanted to make arduous business trips abroad.
4. I wanted to know if it might ever be possible to stand on my Paddle Board.
Jonathan designed a long-term physio plan for me – starting with training on a Reformer – progressing to strength work in the gym. Plus many bespoke exercise programmes.
He told me that progress would be, very slow but sure and to not expect a miracle and that I would get out what I put in.
The result many months and a year or two later
1. My gait improved significantly – most people don’t even notice now.
2. I returned to full time work, invigorated and full of confidence and full of the strength needed for my travels.
3. My steps record is over 20,000 in a day!
4. The highlight – on the 14 June 2023 – I stood up on my paddle board on Lake Ullswater – it was emotional and was witnessed by my wife and friends.
Jonathan gave me firstly the belief, then the encouragement and ultimately through his tenacious skill my life back again.
I’m not 100% perfect and we continue to fine tune every day minor weaknesses – but I continue to improve thanks to Jon’s specialist knowledge, empathy and drive.
I have no hesitation in recommending Jon for physiotherapy. He saw me promptly instead of my having a month to wait elsewhere, and I have benefitted greatly from his expertise.
Both myself, and now my 19 year old grandson have greatly benefited from Sebastian Contreras’s Osteopathy. He managed to stop the pain in my hip, so that a steroid injection was no longer needed. So I decided to see if Osteopathy could help my grandson.
My grandson Louis has left-side hemiplegia cerebral palsy, which causes him to limp. Although Louis has severe autism and finds it difficult to relax, he now loves, trusts and looks forward to his Osteopathy sessions with Sebastian. Louis normally has trouble communicating he feelings, but he actually managed to say, that he could walk better after the Osteopathy session!
Sebastian has managed to lessen the inflammation in Louis hip, alter his posture and relax his muscles in his legs and feet.
When Louis first started the Osteopathy session, he was having trouble wearing his shoes, because he had blisters at the side of his feet. After the first few sessions, he managed to wear his shoes in comfort. I do think that Osteopathy even stopped him becoming wheelchair bound. Thank you so very mush Sebastian, you are a brilliant practitioner 👏.
My Partner, Michael Wade has suffered from neck and shoulder pain for a long time. Having tried various treatments (physio etc), he decided to consult Seb at Castle Clinic to see if osteopathy would help his particular problems. To date, he has had three sessions and has felt much relief of symptoms and feels confident ongoing treatment will be of considerable benefit. He has found Seb's friendly, relaxed and positive manner good when undergoing treatment sessions.
